When God Hit the Pause Button

Okay, real talk: I never actually asked God to hit the brakes on my life. He just went ahead and did it anyway. For the longest time, I honestly believed that being busy meant I was being faithful.

A quick five-minute break anywhere, even in a bathroom, can make a whole lot of difference.
A quick five-minute break anywhere, even in a bathroom, can make a whole lot of difference.

I was always doing something, always checking things off my list, that had to count for something, right?

But here’s the thing: all that busyness? It can totally drown out the one voice you actually need to hear.

Here’s what I’ve learned (the hard way): stillness isn’t a waste of time, and it’s definitely not weakness. God is already hanging out in the quiet, just waiting for us to show up, waiting for us to be still.

"Be still and know that I am God."  Psalm 46:10

If sitting still makes you squirm a little, trust me, you’re not the only one. Most of us never got a lesson in how to quiet our minds. We learned how to hustle, perform, and keep moving instead.

But God? He’s so patient with us while we figure it out.

Here are three simple ways to start:

1. Start smaller than you think you need to. You don't need an hour. You don't need a retreat. Just start with five minutes. Put your phone down, find a quiet spot (even if it's in the bathroom), and just breathe.

2. When your mind wanders — just come back. When your brain starts making grocery lists or replaying awkward conversations, just come back. No guilt. That's all part of the practice.

3. And remember who is waiting there. You are not sitting by yourself. God is already there, right next to you, with His arm around your shoulder.

Just keep showing up. He will meet you in the quiet, every single time.
